Tutoring in Hoover, AL

04/17/2015
Being a great reader requires discipline and certain conditions to make this activity even more enjoyable. We can’t overstate the benefits of reading in your children’s development, as it not only boosts their cognitive skills, but it’s also a valuable tool that will allow them excel in school and provide them with better opportunities in the future.

However, lack of healthy reading habits can lead to associating this task with fatigue. For this reason at The Tutoring Center in Hoover, we created the following post containing useful advice on creating an effective reading environment.

Space

It’s recommended that you find a quiet space at home intended for reading. Remember that a cool environment will keep your children alert, and you can prevent any stale air in the room by setting the temperature to 68 degrees, and don’t forget to open the curtains and doors.

Lighting

Excess or absence of light can lead to eye strains and fatigue, which can have a negative impact on the reading performance. Be sure to provide the space with a lamp, and remember that 18 inches is the recommended focal distance to keep the book from your eyes. Also, it’s important to visit the pediatrician to find out any vision problems.

Position

Remember that the reading position plays a crucial role, as being too comfortable can put your children to sleep, and an uncomfortable position can lead to overuse problems like strains and fatigue.

Don’t allow that these simple and apparently unimportant details get in the way of the reading performance of your children. Keep in mind that becoming a great reader is a process and you have to walk your children through it, so be sure to read this previous post on encouraging your children to read
